Job Description and Requirements

Pragma (, a U.S. government contractor, seeks a monetary economist for a medium-term assignment under its USAID-funded Middle East Growth Best Practices (MEG), Yemen Economic Stabilization and Success (YESS) program. MEG/YESS provides technical support to the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) in monetary policy, payments systems, and foreign exchange management and operations. The assignment will begin in April 2019 and run for approximately nine months. Approximately 75% of that time must be onsite in Aden.

The monetary economist’s objectives are to a) establish and operationalize a sound analytical framework for assessing money demand and provide sound estimates of basic cash currency circulation needs and velocity, and facilitate the determination of basic currency management parameters; b) strengthen the Central Bank’s policy and procedural framework and capacity in foreign exchange management and operations and international payments system activities; and c) establish basic payments system functionality.

The monetary economist should have an M.A. or Ph.D. degree in economics and at least five years of post-degree work experience in monetary policy and analysis in government, academia, banking or consulting. Some prior experience in a central bank is required either as a staff economist or a consultant. Applicants must speak Arabic and English. Applicants must be willing and able to travel to Yemen.
