JOB PURPOSE

​The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking to hire a lab officer for its Advanced Materials Research Lab (AMRL).  The lab officer is expected to carry out material characterization, mainly using XRD, Raman, UV/VIS absorption and FTIR techniques. The candidate is also expected to help develop and optimize these and other analytical techniques in the lab. The candidate is expected to work with internal cross-functional teams.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
  • Analyze materials using XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV/VIS absorption and FTIR techniques.
  • Develop and optimize the analytical techniques available at the AMRL.
  • Assist faculty members of RISE in their projects.
  • Train research assistants/graduate students.
  • Submit reports periodically as required by supervisor
  • Follow up on orders for equipment and consumables
  • Maintain the equipment and follow up on any repairs
  • Assist co-workers with other duties as required

JOB SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES --
REQUIRED SKILLS --
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • PhD or MSc in material science or related fields
  • Expertise in material characterization using XRD (powder, thin films, Rietveld analysis, etc.)
  • Experience in material characterization using other techniques (Raman, FTIR, UV/VIS absorption)
  • Scholarly publications and research experience
  • Fluency in English language
  • Experience in thin film and nanomaterial synthesis is a plus
