Safety Engineer

Job Description and Requirements
  • *Job Summary**

The Junior Safety Engineer shall carry out the duties assigned to him by the Program HSSE Department Director or Senior Safety Engineer. 

The Junior Safety Engineers shall assist & monitor the day-to-day activities on project sites. They will assist the SAC EPMO, ensuring that the Contractors are implementing their legal and contractual obligations at all times. 

In situation where there is an immediate danger to life & health (IDLH) they shall have the authority to stop all work activities associate with that task (with the assistance of the PM) until the contractor fully implements work procedures to rectify the issue(s). 

All HSSE guidance & implementation shall be based on ISO 18001 (ISO 45001), KSA Legal Requirements, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 & 1926 Standards, BSI and other applicable regulations. 

The post holder will ensure there are clear lines of communication and reporting with an emphasis on meeting deadlines and developing transparency in all operations. Leading by example with high ethical standards and recognized for their accessibility by all EPMO staff. 

Job Duties: 

+ Ensures that HSSE SOPs are being followed and that any SOPs which require field modification reflect the current methodologies; 

+ Ensures that all field HSSE activities including Tool Box Talks, Training sessions, PPE Adherence, Housekeeping, etc. are all implemented correctly; 

+ Assesses the Contractor to ensure he is carrying out his work in a manner that is consistent with their documented procedures; 

+ Reviews the Method Statements of Work and Risk Assessments to ensure that all HSSE precautions are thoroughly detailed and ready for implementation; 

+ Responsible for reporting any Health and Safety breaches to the Program HSSE Department Director; 

+ Implements and monitors the discharge of the HSSE Plan; 

+ Implements and monitors policies & procedures, performance metrics, CARs, hazard recognition, etc.; 

+ Ensures all Department reporting is accurate and delivered within agreed timescales; and 

+ Enforces all policies relating to Health, Safety and Environmental practices in the workplace.

  • *Minimum Requirements**

+ Professional experience of working on medium to large scale projects including having previously worked as a Junior Safety Engineer. 

+ Knowledge of all phases of Construction operations relating to field activities of engineering disciplines, construction technologies and job site management. 

+ Previous experience of working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or other Middle East Countries preferred. 

+ Good verbal and written Arabic & English communication skills. 

+ Demonstrated knowledge and experience with scaffolding, fall protection, confined space entry, housekeeping, temporary works, PPE, etc. 

+ Experience in reviewing Method Statements of Work & Risk Assessments. 

+ Demonstrated knowledge and experience in respect to familiarization with international standards, codes and procedures related to HSSE. 

+ Experience with working remotely for extensive periods of time. 

+ Experience with training, developing performance metrics, presenting and other duties as required.
