General Manager

Job Description and Requirements

General Manager needed for a leading distribution company in Beirut, Lebanon.

Job Requirements:
  • Holds a bachelor degree in engineering
  • A graduate degree (MBA or other discipline) is a plus
  • 10-12 years of experience in a senior executive role in an engineering material distribution or contracting business
  • Understanding of local market dynamics (experience in Lebanon, developing Middle Eastern markets, or equivalent)
  • Experience in financial management and operations (internal and external)
  • Experience in developing client relations (served as a key relationship partner for contractors, distributors, etc.)
  • Industry knowledge is preferred
  • Excellent operational skills and ability to manage a business (including team, day to day operations) and deliver consistent performance
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with ability to leverage insights from data
  • Excitement to drive change in a challenging and traditional environment
  • Good stakeholder management skills (board, employees, external stakeholders, etc.)
  • Excellent client handling skills and customer focused mindset
  • Bold / aggressive team leader with an ability to energize entire organization around aspirations
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator in English and Arabic
  • Demonstrates integrity, resilience and loyalty
  • Strong work ethics e.g., collaborative, coachable

Job Description:

  • Assume full accountability to the Board for all aspects of company operations and performance (including closely leading company’s day to day operations)
  • Build, inspire and maintain effective organization aligned with company values
  • Maintain strong relationships and represent the company with customers, suppliers, professional associations and other stakeholders
  • Directly lead the supply chain function including and not limited to supplier relationship management, demand forecasting and order placement, shipment and receipt of orders and inventory management
  • Directly lead the direct sales business
  • Closely manage and monitor operating and financial results in accordance with strategy and budget. Take / recommend immediate action in case of deviation from company goals and targets
  • Manage any other assignments that contribute to the best interest of the company or are assigned by the board members
  • Develop and implement short term strategy / goals approved by the Board
  • Drive business goals derived from strategy definition including expansion into new market, growth of customer base, increase of sales volume and profits
  • Drive the successful operation of the business during management transition from the current leadership to the candidate’s management role
  • Retain customers and staff during transition through proactive communication and other tools
  • Report to the Board risks during transition and proactively address/mitigate them
  • Manage operational improvements of the company e.g., staff optimization, supply chain and inventory optimization, building optimization etc.
