IT Application Officer

Job Description and Requirements

The “GIZ Country Office” in Jordan is seeking an IT application officer - on a full time base employment, as per the attached job profile.

  1. Required qualifications, competencies and experience

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position


  • BSc/MSc in IT or similar
  • familiarity with IT hardware and software used at GIZ, IT network systems, database software, GIZ intranet and a basic understanding of specific GIZ software (SAP, Sharepoint, WINPACCS, etc.)
  • Programming experience with Sharepoint Applications (certificate)
  • experience in developing SharePoint framework extensions (spfx)
  • a good understanding of working with REST APIs (API documentation, creating HTTP requests)
  • experienced with modern SharePoint pages
  • basic knowledge of SharePoint forms and Microsoft Flow
  • basic knowledge of business process analysis and modeling

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Outstanding working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office 365, Sharepoint)
  • good knowledge of the English language, ideally knowledge of German
  • willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
  1. Responsibilities

The IT Application Officer is responsible for

  • ensuring that IT and management systems operate and function correctly
  • implementing and complying with GIZ IT standards
  • regularly updating computer software
  • providing technical support to projects and programmes by dealing with questions and problems relating to IT and databases
  • content management and programming of sharepoint applications (spfx and REST API, HTTP requests)

The IT Application Officer performs the following tasks:

  1. Tasks (operational support and liaison to IT service provider)

The IT Application Officer:

  • ensures the availability of up-to-date hardware (laptops, servers, all PCs) in accordance with current GIZ standards
  • supports and advices management on hardware and network status, based on the requirements and recommendations outlined in GIZ’s IT guidelines
  • gives advice to projects on network-, back-up procedures
  1. Tasks (software)

The IT Application Officer:

  • implements maintains and configures all standard GIZ software (e.g. MS Office 365, Sharepoint, Document Management System, WinPACCS, SAP, Cost control, Onsite Asset) for GIZ colleagues
  • tests new or upgraded software and updates all the software to the latest versions
  • provides and maintains backup programmes to ensure system availability in the country office
  1. Tasks “Integrated Digital Application” (IDA)

The IT Application Officer

  • maintains and updates existing IDA pages on country level
  • content management for IDA pages in liaison with knowledge management responsible
  • programming of process applications for Sharepoint (spfx, REST API and creating HTTP requests)
  • coordinates necessary modifications to the existing home page in consultation with office management and the project or programme managers
  1. Tasks “Office 365”

The IT Application Officer:

  • Inform colleagues about Office 365
  • Share the latest news and provide technical advice for this product
  • Integration of Office 365 in the daily work of colleagues
  1. General tasks

The IT Application Officer:

  • manages and ensures general administration of the entire IT system
  • Ensures back up procedures and deals with the problem of data security
  • resolves all computer and internet problems in collaboration with external service provider, prepares all necessary information on IT related issues to be shared with staff (circulars)
  • provides phone support
  • ensures that an IT emergency service is available
  • notifies the GIZ IT help desk of fundamental problems with GIZ IT applications
  • assists in advising on IT projects
  • maintains a list of all hardware and software systems, and updates this to reflect changes
  • documents the installation and settings on the server and all computers.
  • Updates network and IT infrastructure manual on a regular basis
  1. Other duties/additional tasks

The IT Application Officer

  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of management
