What are tags?

Tags are free words or phrases that describe something. For example, a plumber may tag himself as "water", "pipes", "hard working", "plumbing" and "sewage repair", a company looking for an accountant may tag the job as "accounting", "taxes", "detail-oriented", "numbers" and "Microsoft Excel". Good tags are specific rather than general, as tags help companies in their search to find the right person for the job and help the job seeker find the right job in the company they really want to work in.

What are communities?

Communities are sections within Akhtaboot grouped according to job function that attract people with similar career interests. People that belong to a certain community can expand their knowledge by browsing through relevant articles, videos and jobs.

Why should I join communities?

Community members get preferential treatment when applying for jobs within their communities. Furthermore, communities share information that is relevant to a certain job type, irrespective of industry. This allows members to grow and keep up-to-date with what is happening in their specific areas of interest. Communities also provide an excellent entry point for someone who is curious and would like to explore a certain job function.

What are Jobs from my Network?

Your connections can act as a human job search engine. The people you know most likely know you best, and can therefore send you any job that they think may be of interest to you. So essentially, jobs from your network are job opportunity suggestions that the network of people you know have recommended you take a look at.

What are "Word of Mouth" job postings?

We are a tightly knit community, and personal contacts mean a lot, especially in the area of jobs and recruiting. Akhtaboot is trying to mirror the way our society naturally works. In the real world, if a company is looking for a position to fill, they first look to people they know and trust and ask them "do you know anyone who might be right for this job?". This is exactly what a "Word of Mouth" posting is, the job posting travels through the company's network of contacts and Akhtaboot shows the job opportunity to the relevant people within the company's vast network. Therefore, the more people you connect to, the more word of mouth job postings you will receive.

How is Akhtaboot's network different from other networking sites?

Akhtaboot is not a social network, it's a professional network that is committed to matching the right person with the right job. We respect your privacy and we have limited the degree to which other members can contact you. Our network is specifically built to allow you to extend your professional reach, and allow you to hear about jobs sooner and in a more relevant way through our digital "Word of Mouth", and that is why we call them connections. The more connections you have, the larger your reach to both hear and spread the word about relevant job opportunities.

What do I gain by growing my connections? (why should I connect?)

Akhtaboot is the only website to have developed digital "Word of Mouth". We recognize the importance of connections and word of mouth in recruiting, and therefore every job posting will be delivered to a company's connections and their connections after that. This means that whispers of a great new opportunity are heard by people who have grown their connections to include as many people as possible, so the more connections you have the better your chances that you will hear about exciting new career opportunities.

How do I become connected to a company as an employee?

It's easy. First make sure your company has an Akhtaboot account. If they don't then talk to someone and let them sign up or contact us and we will call the relevant person. Once your company has an account, all you need to do is register your company email (not your personal email) on the connections tab in your "My Akhtaboot". You will then be sent a verification request on the company email you provided asking you to click the link and verify the request to connect. That's it... now you are officially part of your company's network!

Can I change or disconnect the company I am connected to?

Of course. If you no longer work for a certain company all you need to do is go to the connections tab under the "My Akhtaboot" page and choose to disconnect from the company. Now you are free to reconnect to any company you wish, as long as you work there and have a company email.

What happens when I reject an invitation to connect?

Simply... nothing. The person who tried to invite you does not know that you rejected the invitation, and you do not establish a connection with that person. For all they know, you could have forgotten to check your connections and the invitation is still pending in your account.

What do the different statuses mean?

Akhtaboot is more than just a website where you can apply to jobs, you can also come to learn, connect and participate. We have defined three different statuses that you can label yourself as, and you can change your status whenever you want. Status 1: Here to Network. This means that you are not interested in looking for a job, and you just want to use Akhtaboot's connecting features as well as browse and participate in the website from time to time. Employers will not be able to contact you and will not be able to see any of your information. Status 2: Wouldn't Mind a Good Offer. This subtle status means that you are satisfied with your current job but would consider interesting job opportunities that might come up. Employers can see your information and resume and can contact you if they are interested. They can also see your status as a passive job seeker who is content with their current job but wouldn't mind being approached by other companies. Your connections, however, cannot see your status and they cannot tell whether you are on Akhtaboot to network or if you wouldn't mind a good offer. Status 3: Looking for a Job. This is a direct message to everyone that you are in the job market and that you are actively seeking a new job. Employers can not only see your information and resume, they can also see that you are aggressively and actively looking for a job. Your connections can also see your status, and can therefore be more aware that you are in the job market so that they can pass any interesting opportunities onto you.

How do I close my account?

You do not need to close your account. If you are worried about employers and others seeing your CV or profile on Akhtaboot, just take these 2 simple steps: 1) Go to your profile page and update your status to "Here to Network". No employer will be able to see your CV on Akhtaboot. Make sure that you press submit. 2) If you have uploaded your picture, go to your settings page under "My Akhtaboot" and check "No" under the question "Would you like your picture to show to other members of Akhtaboot?". Make sure that you press update to save your settings. This way you are invisible, and your Akhtaboot account remains there if you need to use it at any point in the future... All you would need to do is reverse these two simple steps!
